The Unveiling Ceremony of the Bust of Archbishop Kyprianos


The Embassy of Cyprus to Bucharest with the support of the Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and Industry Romania-Cyprus are organising the Unveiling Ceremony of the Bust  of Archbishop Kyprianos on 23 September 2015. The Bust was created by the artist Ion Ladea and is located at the Greek-Romanian Friendship Square in Iasi.


Kyprianos, the Archbishop of Cyprus (1756 - 1821) was a remarkable personality whose work shaped the cultural and theological world of Cyprus during his lifetime and to this day. He founded the first secondary school on the island of Cyprus and was the member of the "Filiki Eteria" that prepared the Greek revolution for which he was publicly hanged by the Otomans in Cyprus an 9 July 1821. Kyprianos who spent 18 years of his life in Iasi, was latter on elected by the people and clergy of Cyprus to serve as the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Island.
